Felonious Gru, commonly known as Gru, is a fictional character and the central protagonist of the Despicable Me franchise. Initially introduced as a supervillain, Gru is depicted as a towering, bald man with a distinctive Slavic accent, operating from a hidden lair beneath his suburban home.

Gru's early life remains largely unexplored, but flashbacks reveal a childhood yearning for his mother's approval and a fascination with villainy, setting the stage for his future aspirations. He possesses advanced knowledge in science and engineering, enabling him to develop elaborate gadgets and weapons for his nefarious schemes.

His primary objective at the start of the series is to steal the Moon, a grandiose plan intended to solidify his position as the world's greatest villain. This ambition is complicated by the unexpected arrival of three orphaned girls – Margo, Edith, and Agnes – whom he adopts as part of his scheme but eventually grows to love and cherish as his own daughters. This familial bond ultimately leads to Gru's transformation, abandoning his villainous ways and becoming a devoted father and, later, an agent for the Anti-Villain League.

Throughout the franchise, Gru grapples with his past, balances his responsibilities as a father, and continues to fight against new threats to the world, often with the help of his loyal Minions and his wife, Lucy Wilde.
